The 730-day rule
Generally, permanent residents need 730 qualifying days in a five-year period. For a PR of less than five years, the question includes whether they can meet 730 days within the first five years.
Some time abroad can count
Limited rules may credit time accompanying a Canadian citizen spouse or parent, qualifying Canadian employment abroad, or accompanying a qualifying PR employee. Evidence and precise conditions matter. Our calculator counts physical presence only.
